Our boys decided last week that they wanted to be baptized. They were both saved already and had put off being baptized for various reasons but on Easter told us they were ready. Our church has them write out their testimony to read (or have read) at their baptism and here is what they wrote:
Captain C: I became a Christian on September 8, 2005, which was 5 years ago. Before that, I had been asking my parents many questions about the Bible and Jesus. That night, I came downstairs to talk to my mom because I felt that I needed to become a Christian. She asked me a couple of questions to make sure I knew what it meant to become a Christian and then I prayed a prayer asking Jesus to come into my life. I have been learning more about Jesus and since He was perfect and He got baptized, that means that I need to be baptized too. Being a Christian, I have the Holy Spirit with me to help me make decisions, like this decision to get baptized today.
Tricky T: I wanted to become a Christian and I have loved Jesus all my life. Last year, on Good Friday, when we were celebrating Easter, we were making Resurrection Rolls in the kitchen. I asked if I could finally become a Christian so Jesus would forgive all my sins and I could go to Heaven when I die. My dad said I could, because I finally knew enough to understand what I was doing. And then I copied Dad when he prayed and then I become a Christian! That night we went to church and I told Pastor Andrew and I got to have the Lord’s Supper for the first time. The next Easter, God told me to get baptized so I knew I needed to get baptized. And that is what I am going to do so I can show others that I have become a Christian. And that is my testimony.
I love that our church lets the fathers be the one to do the baptizing if they want to. Such a neat thing for the boys and Daddy! I took a few pictures during and was thankful that Grandma was there to video for me (which is being uploaded to facebook right now...I hope...if you want to watch it), then when we came home, I asked them why they did it and took these pics for the blog.
Reading C's testimony...T wanted to peek at what was happening (he was a little nervous!)
And I wanted to include this picture uncropped too because I think it is cool that the kids get up on the stage during the baptisms for a front row seat. We have had 3 other kids get baptized in the past few weeks (one friend went right before the boys today - yay) and I think it helps that they see that it isn't scary.
